Women Play a Crucial Role in Developing the Nation
Yogyakarta—Universitas Islam Indonesia’s (UII) Directorate of Career and Alumni Development collaborated with state insurance company PT Taspen to organize the Srikandi BUMN Goes to Campus (SOE Heroines Go to Campus) event at the K.H.A. Wahid Hasyim Building in UII Main Campus on Monday, 17 July 2023.
The event, titled Kolaborasi Mengukur Prestasi, Membangun Negeri (Collaboration in Measuring Achievement, Building the Nation) was attended by the university’s leadership, board of directors of PT Taspen, and the Sleman Regent.
The event aimed at providing millennials, especially UII students, with inspiration and perspective about state-owned enterprises (BUMN) that have been supporting the increase of women’s contribution in nation-building.
PT Taspen Director of Compliance & Risk Management, Diyantini Soesilowati, said that the involvement of heroines (female employees) at the company had increased significantly. This, she said, was encouraging and extraordinary as women today have very much contributed to the nation’s development.
“The Srikandi BUMN Goes to Campus aims to be a forum for women who wish to work at SOEs. This is also an important momentum to encourage women to pursue a career in state-owned companies so that they contribute towards the nation’s development,” she said.
“Therefore, let’s collaborate to measure achievement and build the nation,” she said.
UII Rector Prof. Fathul Wahid, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D, said in his opening remarks that the event raised two critical issues. The first was regarding the role of SOEs as one of the pillars of the nation’s economy, which in recent years has shown a rapid increase in performance.
The second was the issue of women, a topic that is always interesting to discuss. Prof. Fathul Wahid said that this was because the existence of women had always been misunderstood, from the smallest scope—family and organizations—to the broadest, the state.
“During the jahiliyah (ignorance) era, baby girls were buried alive because it was believed that they would bring poverty. But when Islam arrived, that mindset was changed,” he said. “Islam honors women.”
“One evidence on this is that women today have the right to property, the right to wealth. We hope this will lead to women being in a noble position and are equal with men,” said Prof. Fathul Wahid.
Sleman Regent Dr. Hj. Kustini lauded the event, saying that it gives the opportunity for great heroines to realize their potentials. Whatever women’s roles, potentials and occupations were, she said, it was important for them to understand their identity in order to encourage self-improvements and become the future generation that would support the nation’s 2045 Golden Indonesia ambition.
The event continued with a talk show presented by SOE Heroines. They were PT Taspen Director of Finance Rena Latsmi Puri, PT Taspen Director of Human Capital & IT Ovita Susiana Rosya and PT Taspen Director of Compliance & Risk Management Diyantini Soesilowati.
The event concluded by PT Taspen’s handing of souvenirs to UII and the regent and awards to UII Heroines, the outstanding UII students and lecturers of 2023. (VIP Magazine Vol 10)
