UII’s Faculty of Industrial Engineering Showcases Students’ Innovative Work
Yogyakarta—Universitas Islam Indonesia’s (UII) Faculty of Industrial Engineering (FTI) organized the 2023 Informatics Expo and the 2023 Expo Capstone Electrical Engineering to inspire students’ confidence and innovation.
Taking place at the Prof. K.H. Abdul Kahar Mudzakkir Auditorium on Tuesday, 11 July 2023, the event showcased the creation of at least 90 Informatics and Electrical Engineering students.
FTI UII’s Vice Dean for Resources, Dr. Agus Mansur, S.T., M.Eng.Sc., said the event was a display of the faculty’s support for students’ academic activities. “The students did an expo of their work as a forum for disseminating the course projects they did,” he said.
Through this event, he said students were encouraged to do further research on their work in order to strengthen their competency and experience.
UII Head of Informatics Study Program—Undergraduate Program, Dhomas Hatta Fudholi, S.T., M.Eng., Ph.D., explained that courses showcasing their work at the expo included Information Systems Development, Intelligent Systems and Decision Support, Software Engineering and Application Development Fundamentals.
He said artificial intelligence technology has become much more accessible today. “This can make our application development level at par with everyone else. As newcomers or new developers, we can jump in and level up quickly,” he explained. “On the academic side, college projects will no longer be the same.”
UII Head of Electrical Engineering Major, Firdaus, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., said the focus of the Electrical Engineering students at this exhibition was capstone design. “Through capstone design, students have the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills they have learned during their studies in a practical context,” he said.
The objective, he said, was to integrate the multidisciplinary knowledge gained during studies into broader and more complex projects. “Capstone design usually involves teamwork of multiple students with different backgrounds and expertise so that they complement and collaborate with each other,” he said.
This year, 47 capstone project teams from UII’s Electrical Engineering major took part in the expo. The topics they covered included technologies in health, agriculture and animal husbandry, and renewable energy. Taking part as external examiners were personnel from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Indmira, the Institution of Engineers Indonesia (PII) and some other industry partners. (VIP Magazine Vol 10)
