UII Again Makes THE’s World University Rankings List
Yogyakarta—Universitas Islam Indonesia’s (UII) continuous endeavor to increase its quality on all aspects is recognized by an international university ranking institution.
For the second year in a row, UII is back on Times Higher Education’s (THE) World University Rankings (WUR) for the 2024 edition. Overall, UII sits in the 1,501+ rank with 15 other Indonesian universities and is one of the only three private Indonesian campuses to be featured on the rankings, according to a press release from Shubhi Mahmashony Harimurti, S.S., M.A., Head of Academic and Organization of UII’s Office of Planning & Development/Rumah Gagasan on Thursday, 26 October 2023.
Dr. Raden Bagus Fajriya Hakim, S.Si., M.Si., UII’s Head of Office of Planning & Development/Rumah Gagasan, said UII was selective in participating in university rankings, not taking part in all just for prestige. He said UII only took part in meaningful rankings, mentioning the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) WUR as the other ranking in which UII is taking part.
On 26 October 2023, THE’s WUR released ranks of world universities based on subjects or scientific groups. This year, two of UII’s subjects have made the list. The university’s Engineering & Technology subject ranks 1,001+ globally, one of the only 19 national universities on this subject list. Meanwhile, UII’s Business & Economics subject ranks 801+ globally, one of the only 13 national universities on the list.
UII Rector Prof. Fathul Wahid, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., said the ranking was not the university’s main goal when improving quality but rather a side effect. With THE’s rankings being a reputable list, the rector said these achievements were external parties’ appreciation of UII’s endeavor that the campus must be thankful of and use as a barometer to continue improving.
“We can celebrate these collective achievements appropriately and get back to work with our best intentions,” he said. (VIP Magazine Vol 10)
