Embracing the University’s One-Century Anniversary
Yogyakarta—Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII) celebrated its 80th anniversary on Monday, 20 February 2023. Taking place at the Prof. K.H. Abdulkahar Mudzakkir Auditorium in UII’s Main Campus, the anniversary celebration was held fully offline and was broadcast through the university’s YouTube channel. What was special about the 80th anniversary celebration was the introduction of UII’s 100 Year projection, which would guide the university’s trajectory for the next two decades.
The event’s series of Senate Open Meetings included a presentation of UII’s achievements and accomplishments over the past year, a scientific speech by Dr. Jamaludin Ghafur, S.H., M.H. and presentation of awards to the UII academic community members.
UII Rector Prof. Fathul Wahid, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D. said in his remarks he was grateful of UII’s various achievements over 80 years. The university is also increasingly strengthening its activities as a research campus with the publication of various academic works by students and lecturers.
Apart from improving education quality, UII also encourages lecturers to continue to strive to achieve the highest academic level. The consistent increase in the number of doctors and professors at UII is one manifestation of this commitment.
This year’s UII anniversary theme of “Substantive, Inclusive, Contributive” implies that UII in its current age will continue to strengthen its implementation of the four principles of higher education.
Closing his remarks, Prof. Fathul introduced the “Embracing One Century UII” logo and expressed his hopes and prayers that UII would continue to benefit and serve the nation.
Echoing the rector, UII Waqf Foundation Chairman Drs. Suwarsono Muhammad, M.A. said the university’s 80-year record was not achieved instantly. He said there was a long and complex process to develop UII as it was today. Closing his remarks, he told the audience of the projections of UII’s upcoming developments in terms of infrastructure and business entity.
To round off the event, a scientific speech entitled “Political Parties and the Future of Indonesian Democracy” was delivered by the Advisory Board of UII’s Center for Constitutional Law Studies of the Faculty of Law, Dr. Jamaluddin Ghafur, S.H., M.H.
The overall event was closed by the handing of awards to the UII academic community members who had made their best contribution to the university. Lecturers, teaching staff, as well as faculties and study programs were awarded for their dedication. This final session was led by UII’s Head of Ethics and Legal, Anang Zubaidy, S.H., M.Hum.
