UII Inks Cooperation with Japan’s Ibaraki University

Yogyakarta—As part of the effort to expand its global network, Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII) inked a cooperation agreement with Ibaraki University of Japan at UII’s Prof. Dr. Sardjito Public Lecture Building (GKU) on Tuesday (5/9/2023).

While visiting UII, Ibaraki University introduced its campus to UII’s academic community members during a public lecture session on Thursday, 7 September 2023.

UII Rector Prof. Fathul Wahid, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D. expressed in his opening remarks his gratitude for the cooperation. He went on to explain UII’s profile, brief history and national and international achievements to the Ibaraki University delegates.

Prof. Fathul believed that university cooperations like this could open more opportunities for students and lecturers to exchange experience and knowledge and conduct joint research.

During this first visit to UII, Ibaraki University delegates shared about climate change issues and sustainable development goals (SDGs) achievements. This was elaborated in detail by Ibaraki University Rector Dr. Hiroyuki Ohta. He said that currently, his university was developing special methods to deal with the issue of climate change that had become increasingly severe in recent years.

Dr. Hiroyuki Ohta also explained that Ibaraki University had started taking actions on environmental issues and climate change long before the SDGs agenda was promoted among global academic circles. According to him, Ibaraki University could be the right choice for students from all over the world, including Indonesia, to study further about climate change mitigation.

It is hoped that the collaboration with UII will produce more researchers that are able to experience joint research in the Sakura country. UII will of course have a special place on this agenda.

The meeting continued with a discussion session between representatives of UII and Ibaraki University on the forms of cooperation that would be implemented in the future.

The meeting between UII and Ibaraki University was attended by UII Rector Prof. Fathul Wahid, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., UII Vice Rector for Academic & Research Development Prof. Dr. Jaka Nugraha, S.Si., M.Si., UII Vice Rector for Partnership & Entrepreneurship Ir. Wiryono Raharjo, M.Arch., Ph.D., and representatives from some faculties and study programs of UII.

Meanwhile, delegates of Ibaraki University included Rector Dr. Hiroyuki Ohta, Vice Rector and Dean of the Graduate School of Science and Engineering Dr. Toru Masuzawa, Chair of the International Exchange Committee of the College of Engineering Dr. Jun Shimizu, Director of Diversity, International Relations and SDGs Ms. Asahina Kikuchi, and Head of the International Exchange Division Ms. Yumiko Takeda.
