FK UII Initiates Cooperation with Bangkok Hat Yai Hospital

Yogyakarta—Universitas Islam Indonesia’s Faculty of Medicine (FK UII) has expanded its cooperation by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bangkok Hat Yai Hospital. The ceremony took place at the Faculty of Medicine’s Auditorium in UII’s Main Campus on Monday, 6 March 2023.

UII Rector Prof. Fathul Wahid, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D. was glad to accept Bangkok Hat Yai’s Hospital to collaborate. “As I have been telling my colleagues, ‘If we want to go fast, walk alone, but if we want to go far, walk together.’ As we wish to walk far, we have to maintain togetherness,” he said.

Group 6 Chief Executive Officer Narintara Boonjongcharoen, M.D., who led the delegation, also delivered a speech during the event. “Bangkok Hospital, Hat Yai, is one of Thailand’s largest hospitals located in the south. We envision looking south to expand our cooperation further in the future,” said the delegation head of the hospital that was founded 50 years ago.

Echoing Prof. Fathul, he mentioned the importance of a collaborative spirit. “One of the questions that arises is, what is the mission of this hospital in the next 50 years? That’s why we are here today. As said previously, if we want to walk with a strong stance and make progress in the future, we need to work together. We cannot go alone,” he said.

The event then continued by discussing the initiation of further collaboration, including on student work practices. “To work together, we must be practical. For example, maybe we can prepare several nurses or doctors for three or six months to deal with patients and career consultations,” Boonjongcharoen said.

However, regulations provide that medical students may not take part in practical work without license from the Thai government. Therefore, students to visit the hospital will be working as medical observers.

Other than the UII rector, also present in the event were UII Vice Rector for Partnership & Entrepreneurship Ir. Wiryono Raharjo, M.Arch., Ph.D., FK UII Dean Dr. dr. Isnatin Miladiyah, M.Kes., UII Director of Partnership/Office of International Affairs Dr.rer.nat. Dian Sari Utami, S.Psi., M.A., as well as the university’s other department leaders and UII Hospital management. (VIP Magazine Vol 10)
