UII’s Pharmacy Students Joins 2023 URI Summer Excursion

Yogyakarta—Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII) students continue to increase their international mobility by taking part in global academic events. This time, 13 UII Pharmacy students took part in the 2023 University of Rhode Island (URI) summer excursion in Yogyakarta along with 13 URI students from the United States.

The activity, entitled One-Day Field Excursion, was held for a full day in several locations in Yogyakarta on Monday, 29 May 2023. Apart from students, two lecturers from each university accompanied the students throughout the event.

This activity is a part of the implementation of the UII-URI partnership that has been going on for a long time. UII Pharmacy students—10 undergraduate international program students and three master’s students—became “buddies” for the 13 URI Pharmacy and Health Studies students in this event.

Led by apt. Pinus Jumaryatno, M.Phil. Ph.D., the activity began with a friendly gathering between students and professors from both universities. The event continued with visits to various places such as Beringharjo Market, Jetis Community Health Center (Puskesmas), Unisia Tamansari Pharmacy, the Reduce Reuse Recycle Waste Processing Site KUPAS Panggungharjo (TPS3R), and Dewi Kunti Panggungharjo Cooperative.

“This is a form of collaboration that has been going on for a long time. Before, we have held several J-Term activities since 2016 with the University of Rhode Island. This time, we are organizing a study tour in Yogyakarta with health students who are very interested in the Indonesian health system,” said apt. Pinus. “They say the existence of Puskesmas and BPJS are interesting topics to discuss in public health management.”

“UII continues to maintain good relations with various universities abroad in order to improve both our research and community services. But apart from that, we also hope to provide additional international insights for students at UII Pharmacy, especially the international program students,” he added. (VIP Magazine Vol 10)
